Literature according to Me...




If we talk about Literature and how literature shaped me, First of all I would like to say that shaping something or shaping someone is a kind of process. And its take time to shape something.


This process started from the very First Day of our B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) in English Literature or we can say that it started with the first day of school now this process is about to end with final year of M.A. (Master Of Arts) in English Literature.



It is said that literature is mirror of society but according to me, it can be said that it is a mirror but of ourselves and not of society. We can see the things hidden in us which we can't see directly. We can see our own reflection and can understand ourselves better. Literature totally changed me as earlier I just used to do simple reading of the books but now I can think critically and can also apply different theories. Books prove to be great teachers who cultivate good understanding in us. They not only give us knowledge but also the essence of life which presents absolute joy and strength. Books are the best buddy in solitude.

Her brood gone from her, And her thoughts as still  As the waters Under a ruined mill.                   The poem 'The Old Woman' is written by Joseph Campbell. The poem is divided into 3 stanza. The meaning of the  poem is deeper than any romantic poem. The poem is very simple, realistic poem. The poet has given  the description  of old lady by different comparisons . The Hunt by Mahashweta Devi

‘The Hunt’ forms part of a collection published as  Imaginary Maps: Three Stories by Mahasweta Devi in 1995. The other two stories in the collection are namely ‘ Douloti the Bountiful’ and ‘Pterodactyl, Puran Sahay, and Pirtha. ’ All three stories describe a fictional rendition of situations that are very real in the lives of the tribal people. While ‘The Hunt’   is about a half tribal girl’s bold attempt to put a violent end to her personal exploitation as well as to the threat of ecological devastation, ‘Douloti ’  deals with the problem of bonded labour, particularly the women who are exploited endlessly and mercilessly through the system. The heart wrenching image at the end of the story with Douloti’s rotting and bleeding body covering the map of India raises many disturbing questions and speaks volumes for what independent India has failed to do for one sixth of its population.
